GETTING AROUND DELHI

The Capital city of India, Delhi ranks amongst the best metropolises in the world. A city where the incredibly rapid pace of urban development co-exists wonderfully with deep rooted traditions, Delhi is a city where corporate skyscrapers live in perfect harmony with world heritage monuments.

It is also the seat of India’s political power and judiciary with pioneering contributions in the fields of education, arts, fashion and sports.

Delhi’s Districts

South Delhi —Defence Colony, Hauz Khas, Green Park, Greater Kailash, Vasant Kunj, Lajpat Nagar, Nehru Place, Malviya Nagar and Kalkaji

East Delhi — Gandhi Nagar, Preet Vihar, and Vivek Vihar.

North Delhi — Sadar Bazar, University Enclave (Kamla Nagar), Kotwali, and Civil Lines.

West Delhi — Patel Nagar, Rajouri Garden, East Sagarpur and Punjabi Bagh.

Central Delhi — Connaught Place, Khan Market, Chanakyapuri, Karol Bagh and Paharganj.

Old Delhi — Daryaganj, Kashmere Gate, Chandni Chowk, Chawri Bazaar, Lal Quila and Jama Masjid.

Airport

Indira Gandhi International Airport located in the west of the city, is the arrival point for many visitors into Delhi. Since privatisation, the airport has been extensively revamped and, with the opening of Terminal 3 in 2010, has been transformed into a thoroughly modern facility equivalent to the best airports in the world.

Trains

Delhi has 4 main train terminals which serve as entry and exit points to the city. They are:

New Delhi Railway Station

The main entrance to New Delhi Railway Station is located just outside of Paharganj. The Delhi Metro now connects directly here, but the metro exits are at the Ajmeri Gate (second entrance) side near platform 16.

Delhi Railway Station

Formally Delhi Junction but best referred to as "Old" Delhi Station this railway station is served by Metro Line 2 Chandni Chowk station, with an entrance just outside at the east end of the station and also just over the main road outside.

Hazrat Nizamuddin

Hazrat Nizamuddin is the departure point of many trains heading south. Practically speaking, the only way to get here is by taxi or car. The budget alternative is to take a bus to the Sarai Kale Khan Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) on the ring road and then walk over to the station (400 m).

Anand Vihar

Anand Vihar Terminal is Delhi's newest station, located well to the east of the city near Ghaziabad - Delhi Border. The station opened in December 2009 and will gradually take over all east-bound services. The station can be reached by Delhi Metro Line 3. Anand Vihar Terminal is just opposite to Anand Vihar Interstate Bus Terminal (ISBT).

The Delhi Metro

One of the best ways of getting around Delhi is the Delhi Metro which has extensive reach, is air conditioned and is an extremely pleasant means of commuting if you can avoid the rush hour. The Delhi Metro operates on the following lines:

Red Line: Dilshad Garden - Rithala

Yellow Line: Jahangirpuri - HUDA City Centre, Gurgaon

Blue Line: Dwarka Sector 21 - Vaishali/ - Noida City Centre

Green Line: Inderlok - Mundka

Violet Line: Central Secratariat - Badarpur Border

Airport Express: New Delhi Railway Station - Airport - Dwarka

SERVICES

The BGFF is expecting a significant amount of out-of-Delhi and out-of-India footfalls. In order to ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience, the organisers have set up various service desks that will be available for our guests 24/7. We hope you have a very pleasant time in Delhi and carry great memories of the Festival, the city and its people with you.

BGFF will appoint resources for the following services:
